Side Effects of Capsaicin

Capsaicin is the naturally occurring active compound which is found in capsicum, chili and peppers. It is an antioxidant and a beneficial medicine for many diseases including cancer, obesity, arthritis etc. However, it is a naturally occurring medicine but still some people may face certain types of side effects while using capsaicin products.

There are many types of capsaicin products which are available in the market. Some of the commonly found products are creams, supplements, lotion, liquid etc. Most of the side effects were found after consulting over personal experiences and the complaints which were logged in by the consumers.

There are many types of side effects which have been reported. It seems that capsaicin has affected many body parts in some or the other way like nervous system, respiratory system, cardiovascular and gastrointestinal system. The heat which is produced by the capsaicin is the primary result of heating up the body and thus increasing the pulse, heart beat and blood pressure. Respiratory problems which are caused due to capsaicin are related to the lungs. Some side effects which are related to it include heavy coughing, irritation in the throat, bronchitis, sinusitis etc.

The above said side effects were related to a certain system or part of the body. There are some more common side effects which might be faced by you. Some of them include burning, swelling, pain, bruises, dryness, abnormal skin color, anesthesia etc.

It is not mandatory that every consumer or user of capsaicin products will issues these issues. It varies from person to person, while some will get a little side effect, others will get it on a bugger scale.

It is always better to consult your doctor before adding any capsaicin supplements in to your diet or using any capsaicin products like liquid, lotion, ointment etc. In case of reaction with skin like burning, swelling, irritation, itching, it is advised to use a good medicated soap, sanitizer or shampoo for thoroughly washing your skin where the capsaicin had contact with.

Most people have got common side effects like allergy, rashes etc so they must visit and consult a doctor and preferably a good dermatologist with their previous reports as to ask them that will using capsaicin affect you. Those who are going to include capsaicin supplements in their diet must visit a good gastrointestinal specialist in order to know if they’re allergic to capsaicin that can cause gastrointestinal issues if consumed.
